TAMBO QUEMADO

Only iron meteorite from Peru.
A mass of 141kg was brought to Lima in 1950. It was reported to have been found in a remote area of the Andes but had great difficulties bringing it out due to local native superstitions and interference from local authorities. It ended up in the Geological Museum of Lima and a 1.36kg wedge was then sent to Dr. Nininger.

It is a Medium Octahedrite, IIIAB that had probably been reheated.
